Church Morning worship on Sunday included the Sacrament of Holy Communion and was conducted by Rev Mike Erskine. On Sunday this week, morning worship begins at the usual time of 11am. During term time the Sunday School welcomes children in the front pews of the church. All welcome. A crèche for under threes is available during every Sunday morning service. The Prayer Group meets on Thursdays in Burnside Court lounge at 10.30am. Choir rehearsal is every Friday at 6.45pm. New members welcome. Coffee morning The annual Men in Kilts Coffee Morning will take place on Saturday, January 21, at 10am in Airlie Street Hall. Any donations for the raffle etc will be gratefully received. All welcome. The Alyth Family History Project Closed for the winter. It will reopen on Easter Sunday. The archive contains thousands of records for baptisms, weddings, burials plus maps, newspapers etc. Admission free. St Serf’s Church The Service last Sunday was conducted by Mr Michael Archibald and his Sermon was entitled ‘God in Public’. The scripture readings were read by Denis Scott, the organist was Alison Hooper, and the flowers were kindly gifted by Linda Al-Ibrahimi. New Year Coffee Morning The Auchterard­er Horticultu­ral Society is hosting a coffee morning on Saturday, January 14, from 10am to 11.30am in the Aytoun Hall, Auchterard­er. Everyone is welcome to come along and enjoy a hot drink and some delicious home baking, not to mention a chat with friends to welcome in the new year and catch up on the news. There will be a raffle and homebakes for sale. Entry is £2.50 with no charge for young children. The Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland will be visiting Bendochy Church on Monday, January 16, when he will be joining members of the congregati­on for lunch at 1pm in the Coach House. Church Morning worship was led by the Rev Dr Hugh Ormiston with ‘Light’ as his theme. The Old Testament reading was from Genesis Chapter 1 verses 1-5 (The Beginning). and was read by the Rev Dr Hugh Ormiston with Sandy Duthie reading from the Gospel of Mark Chapter 1 verses 4-11 (John the Baptist Prepares the Way). Officebear­ers on duty were Susan Christie, Russell Martin and Iain Stevenson. Sunday Club was led by Joy Gowrie. Organist was Lynne Mitchell and flowers were provifded by Susan Christie. Tea/coffee was served by Graham, Freya and Ailsa Mitchell. Guild The opening meeting of the Guild is at 2pm in the Church Halls, Woodside on Thursday, January 19. Members and friends will enjoy a ‘Post Christmas at Home’ afternoon. All welcome. Senior Club The next meeting is on January 12 in Cargill/Burrelton Church Hall at 2pm. The first rounds of the Willie Syme knockout domino competitio­n will take place in the first part of the meeting, followed by afternoon tea and then entertainm­ent from Harry McFadyen.

Guild The next Collace Guild meeting is on Wednesday, January 18, in Kinrossie Hall at 7pm. The speaker is Ian Riches and his subject is a personal account of a submarine rescue. All are welcome to come along and join in the fellowship.

Readings were by Iain Bentley from Isaiah ch 42, v 1-9, and Matthew ch 3, v 13-17. The choir sang an introit ‘Love Divine’ and, during the offering, ‘Shine, Jesus, Shine’. Mr Graham used a TV remote handset as a prop to talk about how people can use the rewind, fast forward and pause features to enhance enjoyment of a programme. He encouraged people also to ‘pause’ now and again to remind themselves of the importance of the Christmas message, which is worth revisiting during the year as people go about their busy lives. Later, Rev Graham spoke about the Baptism of Jesus by John the Baptist which symbolised a new beginning in the people’s relationsh­ip with God. Again, Mr Graham asked people to ‘pause and reflect’ on their own relationsh­ip with God, so they can walk with him throughout the year and be ready to respond. Austin Wilkie, organist, played ‘How Brightly Shines the Morning Star’ (Max Reger) and ‘Prelude in C Major’ (JS Bach). The Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland will be visiting the Abbey Church at 3pm on Monday, January 16. Children’s Ministry groups resume on January 12. Handbells Fancy a new hobby in 2017? Try making music with handbells. The Dunkeld Handbell group will be starting rehearsals again from Thursday, January 12 from 2- 4pm. in The Duchess Anne Hall (corner of the square in Dunkeld). Beginners most welcome from 2- 3pm. No previous experience necessary and no need to be able to read music. Just come and try without feeling committed. Don’t be put off if you’ve seen Heather ringing solos with lots of bells. In group ringing each ringer only has two bells and can join in ringing tunes straight away.

Robin Williams stars and Mike Nichols directs this remake of the 1978 comedy La Cage Aux Folles. It’s over-the-top, full of stereotypi­cal characters, but it’s hilarious! Try to guess when it’s on-script and when Robin Williams and the other actors are ad-libbing. Tickets on sale in the shop now, or on the door. No need to bring cushions you can use ours for free.
