Scottish Churches Housing Action has designated Sunday, January 22 2017, as “Homeless Sunday” and it would seem appropriate to highlight the work of the local Perth Charity “Starter Packs” which is closely involved with helping homeless people throughout Perthshire. Perth Starter Packs was founded by Perth Council of Churches in 2004. The aim of the charity is “to relieve the poverty, suffering and distress of people in Perthshire who are in a condition of need or hardship, by providing a basic selection of small household goods to local inhabitants who require to be rehoused due to adverse social and economic circumstances”. If any church member would care to donate a small “minding” on Sunday, January 22, we would welcome donations such as teaspoons, tin openers and cruets or any other small household item. Our team would also welcome more Volunteers who are willing to donate two hours of their time each fortnight in order to prepare the packs for distribution. More information on “Starter Packs” can be downloaded from the ‘Welcome” page on our web site. If you don’t have access to the Internet ask an Elder for the information.

Vale of Atholl FC Sponsored by RW Bell Building Services - League: Meigle 2 Vale 4. Team: Taylor, Kennedy, Crowe, Young, Robinson, Smillie, Houston, Crawford, Scrimgeour, McLauchlan, Robertson, Millar, Bar- rie, Clark, Berry and Knowles Vale got back to winning ways with a win and three points from this away game. Meigle have improved from when Vale last visited and a repeat of the score that day never looked on the cards. Ben Scrimgeour gave Vale the best possible start when he scored a good individual goal within five minutes. It took until the 30th minute for Vale to add to this, Sean McLauchlan getting on the end of Martin Houston’s pass to slip the ball past the keeper. Meigle had a few good individual performers but didn’t really test Vale’s defences too often, that was until near the break, Vale lost the ball in an attack a few soft tackles and a failure to clear the ball when the chance was there allowed the centre a clear sight of goals from which he gave Taylor no chance. Vale ended the half regretting the chances that they had passed up. 1-2 at the break. Millar replaced Scrimgeour at the start of the second half, he didn’t take long to make his mark as Vale were awarded a penalty when Sean McLauchlan was bundled over in the box. The spot kick was converted easily by Graeme Millar. Josh Barrie replaced Matt Robertson midway through the half, it was his pass that put through Glenn Robinson to score from 20 yards to make it 1-4, Alf Berry then took over from Sean McLauchlan, Craig Knowles and Michael Clark replaced, Crawford and Robinson. Millar, Knowles and Clark all had good efforts with the woodwork preventing further goals. Meigle did have their threatening moments, late in the game a good cross was headed home for their second, again Taylor didn’t have a chance. Final score 2-4. Vale had much the better of this game, they played some good football, if there was any criticism it was that they passed up numerous chances to add to the scoreline and on occasion they were a bit open at the back, apart from that it was a successful return after a month without a game. It was also pleasing that the full squad on the day got a run out and showing that they can all do a job for the team. Player of the match was captain Terry Young with a forceful display at the back. Head coach Peter Thain announced that trialist Knowles had signed for the club after the game. Tomorrow Vale are away to Breadalbane in the Atholl Cup with a 1.30pm start. Flower Club The Pitlochry club member Jim Davidson will demonstrate at the meeting in Scotlands Hotel on Wednesday at 2pm. Jim’s title is “Just me Again”.
