Eddie Wolecki-Black Former Perthshire football coach Eddie Wolecki Black has returned to the sidelines of a football pitch after suffering a stroke last year.

The 51-year-old former Airdrieonians head coach was a guest at Lowland League side BSC Glasgow’s coaching day at the city’s Hyndland Secondary School.

Mr Black was on hand to pass on some of his extensive knowledge to the club’s Under-16 squad and the coaches.

He said:“It just felt fantastic to be back on the park again.

“I never knew if I would cope physically but we were in the classroom talking theory and football for two hours and then out on to the pitch – and I loved every second of it.”

The former Bridgend resident suffered his stroke at half-time during a 3-1 win at Cowdenbeath on March 5 last year as his side sat in the play-off positions.

And in September, he was told his contract was terminated, which has sparked a legal battle.

“Not being on the pitch has been the hardest part of what happened to me.

“I have learned so much in football from the likes of Jim McLean at Dundee United and not being able to pass that on has hurt,”he admitted.

Looking to the future, Eddie continued:“I will find my level now – this is about me passing on knowledge.

“I always felt that if someone took one thing from a coaching day, it was a success – so I hope the coaches and the players took something from me.

“The next stage for me is to begin looking at what is the right job for me next.

“I feel contented that I got through today, I made a point to myself.

“My football brain is the same as ever and today has given me a massive lift.”
