Blairgowrie fall victim rescued

-

A short flight took SCAA rapidly to the scene of a serious fall near Blairgowrie at the weekend.

SCAA paramedics worked with Scottish Ambulance Service colleagues to treat the injured man and stretcher him to the nearby aircraft.

Just five minutes in the air and the patient, suffering serious ankle injuries, was safely handed over to A&E staff at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee.

SCAA also reduced a potential road journey to hospital of several hours to just 15 minutes by air this week when they were scrambled to a time-critical emergency at Rothesay.

The crew airlifted a patient to the Royal Alexandra Hospital at Paisley in a race against the clock - safely delivering their charge for treatment.

This week’s mission log also features a cardiac emergency in Highland Perthshire where speed played a vital role. SCAA paramedics worked with Scottish Ambulance Service colleagues at the scene before a speedy flight with the patient to Ninewells Hospital.

SCAA’s rapid response land vehicle has also been busy this week, attending emergencies close to the charity’s Perth Airport base.

* * * An Oban-based Trust has donated £2000 to SCAA in recognition of the charity’s involvement at an incident near Glenalmond recently when a young child fell into the water of a freezing pond, sparking a major emergency response – including the air ambulance.

Findynate Estate near Pitlochry continued their ongoing support of SCAA with a donation of £110 from their recent sweepstake shoot. This brings their total support to date to £1210.

And Meggernie Gun Club at Glenlyon again supported SCAA through their Hogmanay shoot raffle, donating £90.

St David’s Church at Stormontfield has donated £70 to SCAA from a Christmas carol service and Tayside Contracts continued their support for the air ambulance with a £400 donation from their Christmas raffle and in lieu of Christmas cards.

A lucky SCAA lottery jackpot winner from Alyth has donated £100 of her winnings back to SCAA and a woman in Blairgowrie has sent in £126 gathered at a recent occasion event.

Thanks to all those who purchased SCAA Christmas cards at the AK Bell Library. We sold 250 packs and 50 Christmas CDs, raising £1,050.

Among the SCAA collection cans from all over Scotland being emptied at the base this week was one from the GS Group in Perth, containing £122.76.

* * * Registration for the fun-filled Lanrick Challenge at Doune on Saturday, August 5, is now open. The event – staged across open countryside at the Lanrick Estate – will again raise funds for SCAA and the Sandpiper Trust.

Last year supporters enjoying the challenge raised £7,000 for each charity and SCAA is hopeful that locals will again sign up.

* * * The 10th Perthshire (Perth Academy) Scout Group will hear about the work of SCAA at two separate evening events next week. Separate groups of the Scouts will attend the presentations in Perth Academy at 7.30pm on Monday and Thursday.
