Scots Sunday The Service on Sunday will include readings from the Scots Bible, Scottish Hymns and Scottish Tunes. A warm welcome is extended to all. The Service is at 11 am and there will be tea and coffee served afterwards.

St Serf’s Church The service last Sunday was conducted by Mr Michael Archibald and his sermon was entitled ‘The Christian Faith in Scotland’. The scripture readings were read by Irene Hutchison, the organist was Irene McLean, and the flowers were kindly gifted by Rose Gellatly. Bob Barlow, at the usual time of 10am and everyone is welcome. The Rev. Bob Barlow will also take the Joint Communion Service in St Serf’s on Sunday, January 29 at 10am and the Joint Thanksgivi­ng Service in St Serf’s at 6.30pm. There will be a meeting of the Congregati­onal Board followed by a Kirk Session Meeting on Thursday, February 16, at 7pm.

\Alyth

Church Morning worship on Sunday was conducted by Derek Colley. This week morning worship begins at of 11am. There will be an evening service on Sunday from 7pm. The Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland will be giving the address during the service. During term time the Sunday school welcomes children to the front pews of the church. A creche for underthree­s is available during every Sunday morning service. The prayer group meets on Thursdays in Burnside Court lounge at 10.30am. Choir rehearsal is every Friday at 6.45pm. Coffee morning The annual Men in Kilts coffee morning is on Saturday, January 21, at 10am in Airlie Street Hall. There will be the usual stalls and the hall will be open on Friday, January 20, between 2 and 3pm for donations. Church Morning worship on Sunday was led by Rev Dr Hugh Ormiston, with John Alexander reading from Psalm 36 v 5-10 and from John ch 2, v 1-11. Office-bearers on duty were John Alexander, Ishbel Chambers and Alec Orr. The organist was Lynne Mitchell and Sunday Club was led by Alison Martin. Flowers were provided by Gladys Laing. Teas and coffees were served by Gail MacKenzie.

welcomed members to the January meeting held in the church on Wednesday 11th with husband Ken leading the devotions. A volunteer from the Guide Dogs associatio­n with her dog ‘Fagan’ gave an interestin­g talk about the intense training required before a dog is ready to work and the importance of puppy walkers. She was thanked by Ken who with Margaret hosted the meeting and served the ever welcome cuppie. Church News Rev Peggy Ewart Roberts conducted worship in CAPUTH church on Sunday morning with M. Davidson organist and L. Janssens reading the lessons. The service will be in CAPUTH this Sunday. The Kirk session are asked to meet on Tuesday, February 14, at 7pm.

\Coupar Angus

Church Sunday’s service was conducted by Rev Andy Graham and the readings by Jo Chinn were from Isaiah ch 49, v 1-7, and Ephesians ch 6, v 10-20. The choir sang an introit ‘There Is One Name’ by R Critchley. In his sermon Rev Graham introduced his theme of prayer. In Paul’s letter to the Ephesians he urges them to combat evil by putting on the full armour of God, which is held together by the power of prayer. Prayer is the most powerful tool people have. It is their lifeline to God. Organist Austin Wilkie played Interlude in F (A Herbert Brewer) and Fantasia in C Major (JS Bach). Prayer meetings will start on Wednesday, January 18, at 2pm in the Abbey Church. The deadline for articles for the Isla Link is Sunday. Thursday Friends Kay Keay welcomed a smaller than usual group, owing to illness, to the haggis, neeps and tatties lunch on January 12. She introduced Gordon Pattulo, who entertaine­d those gathered with lovely music and stories. Everyone enjoyed

their meal thanks to Mary and Jenny. Kay thanked everyone for attending and Gordon for his music. The next party is at 2pm in the town hall on February 9. Heritage associatio­n Coupar Angus and District Heritage Associatio­n held a very enjoyable Christmas party on Friday, January 13, at the Red House Hotel. Joe Richards welcomed members and friends and everyone enjoyed a lovely meal followed by quizzes, recitals, songs, games and a raffle. Joe thanked everyone for attending and Alan Bannerman and his staff for excellent service. The associatio­n’s next meeting is at the bowling club at 7.30pm. Newcomers are welcome.
