Curtain up on theatre’s restoration
Perth Theatre’s £1.5m bid to kit out the restored building has reached around a quarter of its target.
The building is well on its way to reopening later this year with external structures and internal finishing touches taking shape.
And the massive crane, which was due to be shifted last week, will now prepare for departure from the site from Monday following a weather-enforced delay.
Mill Street wil be closed to traffic from the Kinnoull Street junction on Monday and Tuesday and, as work related to the Mill Street improvement project continues at the other end of the road, there will not be access to the car park at the rear of Marks and Spencer.
While all this has been going on Horsecross Arts has said it has now raised almost £0.4m towards the final fundraising target.
Awards from several trusts and foundations including the Dunard Fund, The Hugh Fraser Foundation, The Foyle Foundation, The Wolfson Foundation, Garfield Weston Foundation, The Barcapel Foundation and Baldoukie Charitable Trust have helped to chip away at the total. It also follows a concentrated campaign to encourage individuals to contribute in the form of donations and seat dedication.
The cash will see the latest kit installed in the building, which will also boast new studio facilities.
The crane was brought on site to install the framework for the building extension six months ago.
