Tartan special at Kettins PS
The pupil council at Kettins Primary School held a non-uniform day last week to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support, one of their chosen charities this term.
Youngsters dressed up in tartan to tie in with Burns day and donated £1 to the fundraising efforts.The children also took part in various Scots-themed activities including a mini highland games and cooking Jackson Davies peels potatoes Scottish food.
In the afternoon, parents and friends of the school were invited to join the pupils and staff for a celebration Scottish culture with poetry recitals – including an impromptu performance of A Dug A Dug by Jenna Howat and Sergio Isaac-Hardy – songs, a Scots quiz and tasty Scottish treats including stovies and cranachan that the children had made in the morning.
The children also performed Scots P1 pupil Kitty Dixon hula-hooping
Tartan Day featured culture, food, sport and, of course, the work of Robert Burns poetry they had been learning.
The winners of the recital competition in P5-7 were Katy Tripney with The Ballad of Janitor Mackay in first place, Orley Mowat with Meh Granny in second, and Willow Murray and Fraser Lyall with Beasties third.
In P1-4 Ruby Brown was first with Gif I Catch a Haddy, Maisie McKenzie and Andrea Sassetti were second with Crocodile and Isobel Conacher was third with Rogie Pogie. Lewis Bruce has fun with bean bags
