Soloists in fine voice for springtime concert

- Melanie Bonn

Tickets are soon to go on sale for a special choral concert in Crieff featuring four magnificent soloists.

Jessica Leary (soprano), Laura Margaret Smith (mezzosoprano), Ted Black (tenor) and Jonathan Sedgwick (bass) will sing with Crieff Choral Group ‘In Praise of Mozart’ on March 26.

The spring time concert staged on the evening the clocks go forward - is in Crieff Parish Church and starts at 7.30pm.

In a celebration of Mozart’s choral music with Perthshire musicians at their very best, the choir and soloists will be accompanied by the excellent City of Perth Sinfonia with the whole conducted by the choir’s director of music, Peter Rutterford.

The concert will open with Ave Verum Corpus, a Eucharistic hymn dating from the 14th century and attributed to Pope Innocent VI, proceeding on to Regina Coeli or ‘Queen of Heaven’, the ancient Latin Marian Hymn of the Christian Church.

The popular and much beloved Exsultate Jubilate (Exult, rejoice) completes the first half in style.

In the second half, the choir will sing the Coronation Mass in C major, a Missa brevis, written in 1779 when Mozart was court organist and composer at Salzburg Cathedral.

This piece became the preferred music for royal and imperial coronations at the Imperial court in Vienna.

Crieff Choral Group is grateful for the support from Awards for All Scotland.
