Perthshire take their division title

Perthshire Hockey men’s first team have been crowned Midlands Division Two champions after a closely contested play-off final triumph against Dundee Wanderers third team.

The Fair City men were out of the traps slowly, allowing Wanderers to seize the early initiative and head into half time with a two goal advantage.

After the break, however, Shire raised the tempo and a clever passage of play was rounded off by Johnston who managed to find the back of the net to reduce the deficit.

Perth were now pushing forward and managed to snatch the leveller. There was a hint of fortune surroundin­g the score, which was converted by Berry from a short corner.

The door was open to now take control of the game but it was Wanderers who nudged back in front heading into the latter stages of the contest.

“Our under 18 boys narrowly missed out on winning the Scottish Indoor Cup recently and are in the semi final of the outdoor Scottish Cup,”Loudon added.

“We will lose most of these players at the end of this season to university and they have had several successful seasons coming through the age groups.”

Elsewhere, in the MNIL Division 2, Perthshire men suffered a 6-1 defeat against Inverleith men’s second team.

Robertson was the Perth scorer which sent the game into the break at 3-1. In the second half, despite creating several chances, Shire could not find the back of the net.

Inverleith went on to score another three goals. The result means Perthshire will be playing in MNIL Division 3 next season.

Outdoor, Perthshire Ladies second team were in Midlands League Division 1 action against Madras and ran out convincing 4-0 winners.
