Grangemout­h glory for Perth City stars

Perth City Swim Club beat stiff competitio­n from clubs from as far afield as Glasgow, Edinburgh and Dumfries to win the Best Overall Team trophy at the recent Grangemout­h MAGS meeting.

The club also brought home a second trophy on the day after beating host club Grangemout­h to win the Squadron Relay.

And Jack Muncey, 13, won the 200 Free, 100 Fly, 100 Back and 200 IM to secure the prize for best overall male swimmer in his age category.

There were further individual gold medals for Katrin Rough, Luke Mitchell, Sam Currie, and two for Alastair Cormack including the 100 Free seconds before returning to the pool to anchor the victorious relay squad.

The team of 27 swimmers also secured a further 19 medals, along with a host of personal best times.

Finn Bannerman and Lucy McPartland won“Too Fast” trophies for achieving times quicker than the event’s entry qualificat­ion standard.

Last weekend, 31 of the club’s swimmers took part in the SASA Midland District Long Course Championsh­ip.

Olympic medallist Stephen Milne led the way by winning a total of six gold medals across all four strokes.

Jack Muncey continued his impressive run of form by taking home 10 individual golds winning all of the events he entered.

Youth Olympian Scott McLay picked up five golds, while Jamie McGregor got four and there were two each for Katherine Bailey, Emma McPartland, Abigail Queen, Sam Currie and Luke Mitchell.

Alastair Cormack, Jacob Marchbank, Micah van Blerk and Rosie Robertson also struck gold as the team went on to add 56 silver and bronze medals across the weekend.

Milne, who won relay silver in Rio last summer, was presented with the Scottie Wilson Award by SASA President Liz Stewart.

The award recognises the person who, in the opinion of the District, has done most to enhance the prestige of the Midland District during the year.

Scott Haxton won Midlands District Volunteer of the Year at the SASA swimming awards. He was unable to collect it on the night and it was presented to him at the weekend.
