Megan ready for cup clash

Swifts welcome champs to Perth

- Matthew Gallagher

Megan Moss has pieced together an impressive footballing CV since first unearthing a passion for the sport.

And now she wants the good times to continue after being welcomed to a Jeanfield Swifts Ladies side who continue to show signs of improvement every season.

Moss, whose career highlights include playing for Tottenham, admits her time in Perth has been fantastic as Scottish champions Glasgow City prepare to visit for League Cup action this Sunday.

It’s a huge game for the club and Moss said: “Glasgow City are a very good side, there is no doubt there. Fortunately I had the opportunity to play them I think five times last year at Stirling, so I know what to expect.

“These are definitely the kind of games you want to be involved in as a footballer. Any competitive athlete wants to compete against the very best. It’s definitely a great opportunity for us.

“We had many new signings, including myself, for Jeanfield this season, so we are still getting to know each other, and the formation.”

Moss has experience of playing football in the United States and also once turned out for Barcelona in a friendly match. She made the move to Swifts from Stirling University after securing a job with St Johnstone.

After Sunday’s cup clash, focus will be on Scottish Women’s Premier League 2 action.

“I played for Stirling University the last season and a half, while I was also getting my masters there,” Moss told the Perthshire Advertiser.

“I enjoyed playing for that team, but when I started working for Saints in October, I learned about Jeanfield’s partnership with St Johnstone and I just thought it made sense.

“Jason had contacted my coach, Tommy Craig, down at Stirling, and because I had been plagued with a few injuries through out last year, we all thought a move to Jeanfield would be a great way to get back playing again.

“So far my experience has been fantastic. The girls are all very nice and welcoming.

“I started playing when I was four and never looked back. I knew from the age of eight that I wanted to pursue a professional football career.

“I was inspired by my idol, Mia Hamm, who really paved the way for women’s soccer in the US. Megan Moss has been loving life at Jeanfield Swifts Ladies

“I know a lot of girls over here want to go to the US and play University (Collegiate) soccer, but I’ve already done that and used my four years of eligibility up, so I wanted to come to the UK for a new challenge and play out here.

“I know we are all extremely competitive at Swifts and will no doubt be hoping to compete to be in the top four this season, but I know we are just very focused on building this team together.

“In regards to my personal goals, I just want to play. Coming back for a couple injuries last season, I want to get back to form quickly and do my best to hopefully contribute to Jeanfield’s future success this season.

“I’m happy to play whatever position Jason thinks I can help the team the most, whether winger, striker or other.”

The role of School Engagement Officer at Saints is a position Moss has taken to quickly. She said: “We had a fairly successful campaign for our #PaintItBlue day against Accies that was a ton of fun to be a part of.

“The video we made got a lot of publicity, and I know everyone’s waiting to see what’s next. We definitely have a few exciting things to come.”

Kick-off against Glasgow City on Sunday is 4pm at McDiarmid Park.
