Broxburn clash is so important for Swifts

-

Jeanfield Swifts continue their battle to move away from the Super League relegation zone this weekend.

And manager Ross Gunnion will be emphasising to his players the importance of the Riverside clash with Broxburn Athletic.

Swifts sit second bottom in the current standings and the boss said:“I seem to say it every week but it’s another big game and a big opportunity for us.

“Despite the defeat last week we didn’t lose any ground on the pack around us so we must try and capitalise this week.

“Broxburn are a very solid team and an established Super League club now. They are the type of team we have to try and replicate in terms of their consistency.”

Recent addition James Yates will again be in the squad and Gunnion admits the decision to sign the former Forfar defender was an easy one.

“We’ve brought in James Yates and he started his first game last week,”Gunnion said.

“I’ve been in contact with James for a number of years and followed his progress at Forfar closely. When the opportunity presented itself to sign him we jumped at the chance.”

A number of key players are still expected to be sidelined for Saturday’s game.

Gunnion added:“We’re still a bit light on the ground with injuries ahead of Saturday. But we’re hopeful Stevie McManus, Daniel Kelly, Fraser Smith and Lee Deans will start training again soon.”

Kick-off at the Riverside is 2.15pm.
