Students back 2017 Young Scot Awards

-

Young people around Perth and Kinross were urged to get on board with two forthcoming events when a special bus arrived in the Fair City yesterday.

The Young Scot bus tour arrived outside Perth City Hall on Monday to back the bid for UK City of Culture 2021, as well as to highlight the Young Scot Awards 2017.

The national youth information and citizenship charity began touring Scotland earlier this month to promote the awards that aim to highlight inspirational individuals aged 11-26, who have gone above and beyond to inspire and improve the lives of others.

There to greet the bus in Perth were music business students from Perth College UHI who are keen to highlight the work of young people in cultural categories such as the arts, entertainment and community.

Councillor Ian Miller, chair of the Perth 2021 Programme Board, said:“The Young Scot Awards are a fantastic opportunity for people in Perth and Kinross to highlight the contributions of young people in our communities. We have a rich pool of talent, and that talent is being nurtured at fantastic institutions like Perth College UHI and in communitydriven arts and culture projects across our area.”

Louise Macdonald, chief executive of Young Scot, said:“We’re already received hundreds of inspirational nominations and I know there are hundreds more out there. It’s fantastic to have support from Perth to celebrate the inspirational achievements of young people. We want everyone across Scotland to get nominating so we can give young Scots the praise they deserve.”

You can nominate a young person at www.youngscotawards.com. The awards will take place on Thursday, April 27, in Glasgow.
