Carse councillor’s coach trip success

Funding covers cost of day out for the elderly

- Paul Cargill

Carse of Gowrie councillor Douglas Pover has seen to it that the Invergowrie Older People’s Group can enjoy a coach trip along Scotland’s east coast later this year.

The SNP councillor recently applied for funding to cover the annual outing from the Annie McLean Trust and the Sharp Fund who each consider funding requests for events which benefit elderly people.

The trustees agreed to support the group’s 2017 coach trip, which this year will take them to St Andrews and on a tour of the Fife coast followed by a lunch, and handed over a combined total of £760 to cover the costs.

Presenting a cheque for the amount to the group’s president John O’Neill at the Peter Arbuckle Community Lounge on Thursday last week, Councillor Pover commented: “I am delighted that funding has been provided by the trustees for this annual coach trip.

“I know it means a lot to a number of older people to meet others and take part in such sociable activities.

“It gets older people out of their homes and prevents social isolation.

“I do what I can to promote and encourage such activities among our older citizens.

“I am sure they will all greatly enjoy their coach trip and the companionship it will provide.”

John O’Neill added: “I would like to thank Councillor Pover and the trustees for their very generous donation which makes such a difference for our members and we are all very much looking forward to the trip.” Carse of Gowrie councillor Douglas Pover with Invergowrie Older People’s Group president John O’Neill and members
