Police called after drinker turned nasty

- Court reporter

A drunken Perth man lost the plot on Boxing Day after a marathon festive season drinking session.

Perth Sheriff Court was told that 34-year-old Kevin Keenan was a “great guy” - if he stayed off spirits.

But he had over-indulged on Jack Daniels - and a darker side of his character came to light.

He started acting aggressively on the morning of December 26 and shouted at his wife: “I’m the f***ing daddy - I’m the f***ing man.”

He then threatened: “Anyone who comes into my house is f***ing dead.”

She was frightened after he trashed several household items and called the police who promptly handcuffed him.

But not before he had belligerently inquired: “Who called you?” - and then ordered the officers from his home.

Keenan, of Kingswell Terrace, admitted shouting and swearing at his home on December 26, acting aggressively and smashing crockery.

A not guilty plea was accepted to a second charge of shouting and acting aggressively towards two police constables.

Depute fiscal Robbie Brown told the court that the accused had been drinking from Christmas night - and that had gone into “late morning” of the next day.

The accused, he said, was described as “heavily intoxicated”.

Solicitor David Holmes said one of the witnesses had described the accused in “very positive terms”, except when he drank spirits, which he couldn’t “handle”.

“He started drinking Jack Daniels and that caused him to change.

“He’s very sorry for his actions.”

Plates and a cup had been broken and there were “piles of cereal and milk” on the floor.

Noting that Keenan had been out of trouble for more than seven years, Sheriff William Wood deferred sentence until November 8 and ordered him to be of good behaviour until then.

“Clearly if drink’s a problem, you need to resolve that.”
