Goal hero praised for late cracker

-

Wotherspoon St Johnstone midfielder David Wotherspoon heaped praise on goal hero Chris Kane after Saturday’s dramatic win against Ross County.

The young forward was hoisted into action late on and made his mark with a stunning 90th-minute drive into the top corner to snatch three points.

Wotherspoon was the man to provide the assist and he said:“I wasn’t expecting Kano to ping that one in the top corner. I was actually looking for the lay-back to give me a shot at goal!

“But it was a fantastic turn and finish. We knew straight away that it was in even before it hit the net.

“The boys were buzzing when we got into the changing room and it makes the journey down the road a lot easier after picking up three points.

“Kano has that in his locker. His shooting is good and his touch and turn is very sharp.

“He’s not been playing a lot but it just shows what he can do. It will give him added confidence and hopefully the goal does him good.

“I think it’s his first goal from outside of the box. It was some strike and some winner.”

Wotherspoon believes Saints were deserving winners at the weekend and is now

focused on piecing together a positive run of results.

“It was definitely a deserved win because the boys played really well,”he said.“You could tell from the start of the game that everyone was up for it.

“It was important to bounce back straight away after the Scottish Cup defeat. We went out and played the way we know we can.

“The boys are focused on getting the top six secured. There are eight games left and still a lot to play for but we’ve put ourselves in a great position.

“If we can secure top six, that’s when we can look upwards. It’s difficult for us to be caught but it’s possible, there are points there to be won.

“We need to take care of it. We’ll be looking to get as many wins as we can and keep ourselves close to the teams in front.

“The club seems to keep doing it year in, year out. It’s a big achievement for a club of this size.”
