RSPB Loch Leven Activities begin this week with a wildflower meadow workshop on Saturday, March 11, from 2pm to 4pm, booking essential. Members £8; non-members £12. He explained during his all age talk the story of the ‘praying hands’ model he had with him. As this was the first Sunday in Lent, his sermon was on temptation. The annual stated meeting will be held after the service on Sunday, March 12, and will be conducted by Mr Michael Archibald.

Arthritis Awareness in Atholl In the absence of the chairman, Mary Ballantine welcomed the speaker Dr Nicola Cowmeadow, local history officer with Perth and Kinross Council, who works from the A K Bell Library where much of the material is stored. Collection­s include rare books, music, photograph­s, maps, newspapers and informatio­n on local authors such as John Buchan and Beatrix Potter. All accessible to the public. Dr Cowmeadow gave advice on how family history can be researched through census documents, parish records, house histories and burial records, all at the library for the public to use. This was a fascinatin­g talk and much appreciate­d by the audience. President Dr Cruikshank gave the vote of thanks. The next meeting will be held on Monday, April 3, when Charlotte Flower, chocolatie­r, will be the speaker. All welcome. Atholl Centre open day The Centre are holding an open day to show off their new conference room on Saturday, March 18, from 2pm. A bring and buy sale will operate at the same time. A9 drop in session This session is to review and comment on the Pitlochry to Killiecran­kie section of the new A9 proposals. The venue will be Pitlochry Town Hall on Tuesday, March 14, from 3pm until 7pm and Wednesday, March 15, from 11am to 3pm. St Madoes

St Madoes and Kinfauns Parish Church The morning worship in the church on Sunday is at 10.30am. This will be followed by the annual presentati­on of accounts from 12 noon in the church, open to all members of the congregati­on. There will also be a congregati­onal vote on the existing church building. The snack group will be ‘out and about in Ontario’ in the community centre on Tuesday from 1.30pm. Wednesday’s bible study group meets in the church at 11am. All welcome. This week’s prayer meeting will be in the form of prayer pairs/triplets. The coffee morning held on Saturday of last week raised £759, at the latest count, for Madoch Centre funds – a fantastic total, particular­ly, given the awful weather. Thanks to everybody involved.
