Protesters hit the streets over housing bid
Fury at developer’s Scone scheme
A protester with a banner ahead of Wednesday’s march Campaigners fighting proposals for 700 homes in Scone are to take their protests on to the streets of Perth tomorrow.
A large turnout is expected of people concerned at the scheme over its handling and because of the impact it is expected to have on roads and pollution in the area.
Organisers are urging people to demonstrate their opposition in a peaceful protest which is expected at council offices from 4pm.
Ward councillor Lewis Simpson told the PA: “I just want as many people as possible to be there to show how strongly they feel.”
A spokesperson for the protest group said: “We are demonstrating to demand a proper investigation into the altering of the LDP (local development plan) and until expect a freeze on the H29 planning process.
“We congratulate the councillors, MSPs and MPs who support this democratic request.”
The protest follows more than 900 people responding to the planning application by developer A&J Stephen.
As well as pollution, there are concerns about the phasing of the house building, which is being linked to the proposed Cross Tay Link Road.
Community councillors in the area have also been working on establishing the background to the proposals which they say centres on strategic planning document, the local development plan.
The 2012 blueprint was reworded but this did not become apparent until recently.
This move has been called “typogate” by those opposed to it.
