Alyth Church Morning worship on Sunday of last week was conducted by Reverend Mike Erskine. The service on Sunday morning will begin at 11am in Airlie Street Hall, while the church is undergoing maintenanc­e. Thanks were expressed to everyone who supported the congregati­onal board’s coffee morning on Saturday of last week. During term time the Sunday school welcomes children to the front pews of the church each Sunday morning. A creche for underthree­s is available during the service. The prayer group meets on Thursdays in Burnside Court lounge at 10.30am. Choir rehearsal is held every Friday at 6.45pm. New members welcome. Bankfoot Church The service in the church on Sunday is at the usual time of 11.15am and will be conducted by the minister. Guild concert The Barber shop singers will be giving a concert in the Church Centre on Thursday, April 6, at 7.30pm. There will be a charge of £5 (including refreshmen­ts) for Guild funds. Come along and enjoy a musical evening. All welcome. Messy Easter will be held in the church centre on Sunday, March 19, for families from 3pm finishing with tea at 5pm. Free entry. Spring fayre A spring fayre will be held in the church centre on Saturday, April 8, from 11am to 3pm. Blackwater

Quiz night A quiz night will be held in Blackwater Hall on Friday, March 17, in aid of hall funds. The fun starts at 7.30pm. Entry costs £2.50 per per- son, teams of four. There will also be a raffle and a licensed bar on the night. Concert Gordon Patullo and Friends will entertain during a concert at Bridge of Cally Hall on Friday, March 24, from 7.30pm. Bridge of Earn Tennis Club The club are holding a quiz night at the Bowling Club tomorrow, 7pm for 7.30pm; entry £3 per person. Dunbarney and Forgandenn­y Church The stated annual meeting will take place in the church during morning service on Sunday. This will be a joint service at 10.30am held in Dunbarney Church. There will no service at Forgandenn­y Church on that day. Worship will be led by the Very Rev James Simpson. The service will be followed by a soup lunch in the church hall. Monetary donations from the lunch will be donated to Cystic Fibrosis. All welcome. Monday Club The next meeting of the club will be held in the church hall on March 20, at 2pm. Loryn Cura will be coming along to entertain. All welcome. Coffee morning The 14th Perthshire Scout Group are holding an eggstravag­anza event in the church hall on Saturday, March 25, from 10am to 12 noon. Coffee/tea and cakes will be served; entry £2 for adults; £1 for non-member children. There will be a tombola and cake and candy stall. Various craft stalls, a raffle, face painting, an eggbola, name the bunny, and the starting point for the Easter egg hunt for the children will be held in the Scout hut. Proceeds from the event will go towards group funds. All welcome.

Burrelton

Burrelton Church Communion was celebrated at morning worship held in Burrelton Church on Sunday of last week. The service was led by Rev Stevie Thomson, assisted by the Rev Dr Hugh Ormiston. Office bearers on duty were Anne Baxter and Ishbel Chambers with the Sunday club led by Anne Baird. Organist was Lynne Mitchell and flowers were provided by Margaret Alexander. Bowling Club Burrelton Bowling Club will hold its annual bingo tea in Burrelton Village Hall on Friday, March 24, eyes down at 7.30pm. Guild The annual general meeting will take place in the church halls, Woodside on Thursday, March 16, at 7pm. Business will be followed by a silent auction in aid of Erskine Hospital. Coffee morning will be held in the church halls in Woodside this Saturday, March 18, from 10am to 12 noon. It costs £2.50 for adults; £1 for children, free for under fives. There will be home baking and raffle with proceeds to Busy Bees parents and toddlers group. All welcome. Senior Club The meeting last week was well attended and the members enjoyed a video called ‘A red, red rose’, shown by Jim and Stella Cormie. The video was based on 24 Scottish gardens, within fairly easy reach of Perth. Jim and Stella’s own garden was featured in the video and it came as no surprise that they had won the coveted Rose Bowl award for best overall garden at the Beautiful Perth Awards on several occasions. Carole Beal proposed an appropriat­e vote of thanks. Marie Milne presented Stella with a bouquet of flowers to thank them for giving their time to share their video with the members. Afternoon tea was served and the home bakers were Suzanne Spalding and Irene Syme. Thanks were expressed to all the ladies who donate home baking for the meetings. The next meeting on Thursday, March 23, will be the AGM and prize-giving. There is a change to the syllabus and the entertainm­ent will be provided by Tom Clark.

Abbey Church The service on Sunday of last week was conducted by Rev Andy Graham and readings by Margaret Patullo were from Genesis chapter 12, verses 1-4 and John chapter three, verses 1-17. The choir sang the introit ‘Crown Him with Many Crowns’. In his sermon Rev Graham said people do not have to earn God’s love but have to be ready to open themselves up and accept it. They must then share it with others. Organist Austin Wilkie played ‘Prelude in C Major’ by J S Bach, ‘Heut Triumphant Gottes Sohn’ by Bach, and ‘Praeambulu­m Supra Jesu Meine Freude’ by J L Krebs. The service on Sunday at the Abbey Church is from 11.15am to 12.15pm. Prayer meetings continue every Wednesday at 2pm in the Abbey Church. Bible study is held in the church on Wednesday, March 15, at 7.15pm. Stepping Stones resumes at 5.30pm with the Compass group at 7pm, both meet on Thursday, March 16. The Abbey Kirk Session meets after morning worship on Sunday, March 19. The church AGM is after morning worship on Sunday, March 26, followed by a soup and sandwich lunch.
