Continued success for Perthshire

Perthshire men’s first squad moved to the summit of the MNL Division 3 at the weekend after defeating University of Strathclyde men’s first team 5-3.

A quick start was the order of the day for Shire and they took the lead courtesy of a short corner mid-way through the first half.

The lead was doubled through a well-worked goal but, on the stroke of half-time, the students pulled one back from a penalty stroke.

With the game finely poised after the break, Shire again scored from a short corner to allow breathing space.

In what proved to be an exciting contest both teams would net twice in the latter stages. But it wasn’t enough for Strathclyde.

Shire scorers were A Czub, M Czub (2), M Robertson and M White.

Meanwhile, Perthshire men’s second team recorded a resounding 11-1 victory against Monarchs men’s second squad.

Despite having the majority of possession in the opening stages, it was Monarchs who countered to take the lead.

But from there it was plain sailing for Shire, whose 2017 winning ways continued. R Henderson and H Wilkie both netted hat-tricks.
