FESTIVAL SUPPORT

Creative cash for Expo‘17

- Craig Angus

Perth College UHI has been awarded £1,500 from a special pot of cash tied in to the Fair City’s bid for UK City of Culture 2021 status.

Perth Music Expo 2017, organised by lecturers Andrew Dyce and Craig MacLeod, is to receive £1500 from the Perth 2021 Creative Communities Fund.

The event will take place in the Twa Tams, Green Room and Perth Playhouse on September 7.

Now in its third year, it is designed to provide a platform to showcase new local music and give others behind the scenes – such as those interested in photography and event organisation – an opportunity to work on an established event and gain invaluable experience working in the creative industries.

Prior to the event, two pop-up music events will take place at the college which will include tuition and support for emerging musicians. These events will take place in June and August.

Andrew said: “A few years ago Craig and I came up with the idea of having a contemporary music event in Perth – the idea behind it was that it would bring contemporary bands from all over Scotland to Perth to showcase the city as a music destination.

“Every year it’s got a bit bigger and so this

year, with the support of Perth 2021, I think we’re going to be able to make it even bigger.”

The Perth 2021 team has invested a total of £50,000 in the Creative Communities Fund as a part of the UK City of Culture bid. The fund allows people across Perth and Kinross

apply for up to £1,500 to start a new creative or culture-based project.

Provost Liz Grant said: “The Perth Music Expo is a brilliant example of the power of culture to encourage people from all ages and backgrounds to get involved with and participate

in music.

“I’m wishing Andrew and his team all the best for the event and I am looking forward to seeing what other projects come forward with great ideas.”
