‘FIVE-STAR ENVIRONMENT’ Grand plans for leisure scheme

Gleneagles glamping site details unveiled

- Iain Howie

Major plans for a luxury Perthshire camping and leisure destination which could create new jobs have been unveiled.

The Gleneagles Hotel is behind the scheme for the ‘five-star environment’ development on nearby land at Easterton Farm.

Proposals were put on show at Gleneagles on Wednesday to gauge opinion. Final plans are expected to be submitted to Perth and Kinross Council within weeks.

Provisional plans for the 256acre Easterton Farm site reveal the hotel’s vision to create a grand leisure and accommodation camp experience, including lodges and tepees, as well as a spa, bars, restaurants, retail and events space.

The owners of the resort are understood to have bought the farm site, which formerly housed guest accommodation, around the time of the purchase of Gleneagles.

Bernard Murphy, Gleneagles’ Managing Director, said: “This is an exciting time for the hotel, as we look to complement and expand the existing Gleneagles offering, with an authentic, luxury, rural camp experience, that will make the most of the stunning natural assets on the site and beyond. We envisage this development will enable our guests to enjoy a range of benefits to health and wellbeing associated with getting out and experiencing the countryside.”

Gleneagles emphasised the benefits the development will bring to the local community and Scottish tourism, with the generation of jobs both during construction and in the ongoing operation of facilities, as well as with the attraction of guests.

Mr Murphy added: “As with all previous developments at Gleneagles, we would look to work closely with experts, planners and relevant agencies, to ensure traffic and noise is managed appropriately, and to make sure Gleneagles’plans were revealed this week our stakeholders are not adversely affected by any of the planned activities.”

Individuals who wish to leave feedback or seek further information on the proposals should submit enquiries in writing to: Savills, Planning,163 West George Street, Glasgow, G2 2JJ by April 5.
