Story tree’s taking root at library talk
Perth’s AK Bell Library has a unique new centrepiece installed by a Perthshire artist.
Georgia Crook has designed a ‘Story Tree’ made of willow and paper as part of inaugural Platform arts festival.
Specially commissioned for the showcase – which starts today and runs until April 1 – the twostorey focal point will set the scene for a stunning celebration of contemporary art.
It is being run by Perthshire Creates, a network of contemporary creative activities, and Culture Perth and Kinross, which works to support the development and delivery of cultural services across the region.
Georgia, who works out of a studio near Loch Tay, fashioned the sculpture out of organically grown willow and book pages for the tree’s ‘leaves’.
And she will share her experiences of creating the tree at a free talk at AK Bell Library on March 28 at 2pm.
Georgia said: “I’ve been thinking about creating a tree like this for a long time and I was just looking for the right venue.
“When Culture Perth and Kinross approached me looking for something a little bit innovative and original for the AK Bell Library, it seemed like the right place for this.”
Helen Smout, chief executive of Culture Perth and Kinross, said: “The Story Tree fits neatly with the aim of the first Platform festival, which is to push creative boundaries.
“It also showcases just one example of the artistic talent that surrounds us in this region.
“Now visitors to AK Bell will be able to surround themselves with art as they sit under the tree in the library.”
