Fashion retailer Joules has announced plans to set up shop in Perth.

The upmarket clothing and homeware company has put forward proposals to move into the old Austin Reed store on the city centre’s St John’s Street, which has lain empty for almost two years.

Joules’ plans have been put to Perth and Kinross Council, and include a new shop front and interior refurbishment, including removing the current staircase in the building.

Perth city centre councillor Peter Barrett said: “Joules moving in to the St John’s Street is great news for the city centre.

“Their new shop will occupy a prime site in St John’s and will drive footfall in the area.

“It will be a very welcome addition to the clothing and fashion offering in Perth.

“Given the size of the premises I hope that it will offer the full Joules range with men’s, women’s, boys, girls and baby wear.”

The Perth store would be the fifth Joules in Scotland, who already have premises in Edinburgh, Glasgow, St Andrews and Aberdeen.
