Team Tory signal their aim for council control
The Scottish Conservatives have signalled their intent ahead of the local government elections with at least one candidate standing in each Perth and Kinross ward.
Current councillors and MSPs were joined by Scottish leader Ruth Davidson to launch the party’s campaign for wards in the area during a visit to Abernethy.
Ms Davidson said: “The Scottish Conservatives are working hard across Perth and Kinross at these local elections.
“Our team of local candidates are talented and hardworking and are committed to winning control of Perth and Kinross Council.
“Kathleen Baird’s by-election win in Almond and Earn last year gave the party momentum right across the region and the Scottish Conservatives are the only party able to take the fight to the SNP.”
The Tory contingent is mixing established councillors and new blood for the list of candidates.
Business leaders and professionals are among the Conservatives’candidate list with professional photographer Angus Forbes standing in Carse of Gowrie, community councillor Colin Stewart seeking election in Strathmore alongside Dennis Melloy and Bridge of Cally sub-postmaster Bob Brawn is standing in Blairgowrie and Glens. Former East Dunbartonshire councillor and charity director Anne Jarvis is standing in Strathtay Conservative MSPs and candidates for the council elections, with Scottish party leader Ruth Davidson alongside Ian James, a former councillor in Dorset. Business specialists Alex Menzies-Runciman and Roz McCall are standing in Strathearn.
Dr Crawford Reid is seeking election in Strathallan, while Conservative aide Callum Purves and Kinross businessman John Ross are vying for your votes in Kinrossshire. Other new faces include Almond and Earn nominee David Illingworth, an IT analyst from Abernethy, professional musician Michael Jamieson in Perth City South, property businessman Harry Coates for Perth City North and North Muirton community councillor Chris Ahern, who is standing in the city centre ward.
