Remarks put him on sex offenders’ list

- Court Reporter

A Perth man who asked a woman for sex and then later put his hand on her bottom has had his named added to the Sex Offenders’ Register on an initially temporary basis.

Whether thirty-seven-year-old Robert Garrick’s name remains on the list will be determined after a risk assessment is carried out to determine if there was“significant sexual element”to his actions.

A Community Justice Social Work report will also be prepared for when he returns to court for sentence on April 26.

Sheriff William Wood told Garrick – who said to police in an interview he“didn’t mean any harm”– the action was being taken as a “precaution”until the paperwork was compiled.

The accused admitted that on June 29 last year, at a close in Bridgend, he behaved in a threatening or abusive manner by making inappropriate remarks to the woman - and then touching her on the buttocks.

Not guilty pleas were accepted to further charges of shouting inappropriate remarks to two different women in Perth’s Mill Street on May 16, 2015, and sexually assaulting the same woman in the June 29 incident by seizing her by the clothing, kissing her on the mouth and striking her on the buttocks with his hand.

Depute fiscal Craig Donald said Garrick had asked the female for sex as she was preparing to go out.

He later approached the same complainer and placed his hand on her buttocks.

Initially the complainer had been “reluctant”to report the matter to the police but had done so after she had been discussing the matter with friends.

Solicitor Linda Clark will give her plea in mitigation after the background reports have been prepared.
