Well-known figures bow out
Labour councillor Archie MacLellan Council Leader Ian Miller’s confirmation of his standing down in May is part of a major shake-up of councillors facing the local authority.
The elections for 40 councillors over 12 wards are due to take place on Thursday, May 4.
PKC is having its number of councillors reduced from 41 this year, meaning the Perth City North ward will lose one of its current elected representatives.
As well as Mr Miller, other councillors who have confirmed they are standing down are current provost and Blairgowrie and Glens ward councillor Liz Grant, her husband and past depute leader Alan, who represents Strathmore, and Blairgowrie and Glens’Bob Ellis.
In Perth Labour’s City Centre councillor Archie MacLellan has indicated he will not be seeking re-election.
There are also big changes afoot for the Scottish Conservatives’ contingent, with former group leader Mac Roberts, Alexander Stewart – who is also an MSP for Mid Scotland and Fife – Heather Stewart, Ann Cowan, Barbara Vaughan and Alan Livingstone all confirmed as not seeking re-election for the party. That leaves councillors Ian Campbell, Caroline Shiers, Murray Lyle and Kathleen Baird as those who will be hitting the campaign trail .
Nomination forms for the elections are to be with the returning officer by 4pm on Wednesday, March 29.
