Tough draw for Pat

Kinross badminton player Patrick MacHugh is expected to face a tough battle at the Total BWF Sudirman Cup.

The 24-year-old will travel to the Gold Coast in May to represent Scotland at the world mixed team championsh­ips.

And the Scots have been placed in Group 2A with Germany, Vietnam and Canada.

The provisiona­l schedule sees Scotland start against Vietnam on May 21, face Germany on May 22 and Canada on May 23, with all three matches scheduled for noon starts.

Anne Smillie, chief executive of Badminton Scotland, said:“We have a young and eager squad and I am sure the players will rise to the challenge.”

Doubles specialist MacHugh has made the team alongside Martin Campbell, Adam Hall, Kieran Merrilees, Rebekka Findlay, Kirsty Gilmour, Julie MacPherson and Eleanor O’Donnell.
