SNP’s 14 new faces for council elections
23 candidates‘will champion community interests’
Perth and Kinross SNP yesterday launched its campaign for the forthcoming council elections as it looks to retain power in May.
The party has 23 candidates standing with 14 new faces added to the line-up.
At a gathering on Tay Street the SNP team was joined at the campaign launch by Perthshire North MSP John Swinney and outgoing council leader Ian Miller.
Mr Miller said: “With thousands of members in Perth and Kinross, the SNP has a substantial pool of talent from which to draw candidates. This has allowed us to assemble a team which is rich in both professional experience and local knowledge. If elected, they will champion their communities’ interests within Perth and Kinross Council.”
He highlighted that the current administration was a minority, with the SNP group the only party to have so far fielded enough candidates to take outright control.
And he added: “The SNP’s campaign is framed by our positive vision for Perth and Kinross and how we may build upon our recent achievements to deliver even more for our area. The SNP are the only party fielding enough candidates to win control of the council, which immediately sets us apart as Perth and Kinross’ party of ambition.”
Mr Swinney said: “Perth and Kinross has been developing in a very positive direction over the last five years, thanks to the SNP’s ambitious programme while leading the council.”
