MillStreet to close
Perth Theatre’s on-going refurbishment will see Mill Street close tomorrow.
The £16.6million restoration project hits a milestone this week as an air handling plant is craned onto the new roof extension of Perth Theatre. Once this is in place, the internal fitting works can begin throughout the building.
This includes a 200-seat studio theatre, workshop spaces and a full restoration of the Edwardian auditorium.
Mill Street will close on Wednesday from Kinnoull Street to George Street to make way for the construction work, including the car park next to Marks and Spencer. However, pedestrian access will still be available on the Premier Inn side of Mill Street.
This comes as the construction workers on Perth Theatre receive the highest accolade for considerate construction.
Tayside Robertson Group, who are restoring the B-listed city centre icon, received a gold award at the National Site Awards last week.
Robertson Group’s chief operating officer Derek Shewan said: “It’s a wonderful achievement to be honoured.
“It is testament to the hard work and commitment of our employees in adhering to the highest industry standards across our sites, while acting as ambassadors of considerate construction across the country.”
Perth Theatre will reopen in Autumn.
