A young Perthshire actress will be performing as the leading lady at London’s famous Globe Theatre in a scene from a Shakespeare play this weekend.
Lucy Menzies from Auchterarder will tread the boards at Shakespeare’s Globe in Troilus and Cressida as part of the annual Sam Wanamaker Festival.
The 22-year-old is currently studying at London Drama Centre and was selected as one of 44 up-and-coming young actors who will be enjoying a spell in the spotlight at the world famous venue on Sunday, April 2.
The festival brings together leading drama schools from across the country for a weekend of workshops led by the Globe’s resident text, movement and voice specialists.
It culminates in a public performance of scenes by Shakespeare and his contemporaries.
Having a place at the festival has enormous benefits for an aspiring actress like Lucy.
Previous festival performers who went on to receive worldwide recognition include Michelle Dockery, of Downton Abbey fame and Andrew Garfield – best known for Hollywood blockbusters such as The Amazing Spiderman and The Social Network.
On Sunday Lucy will have the role of Cressida and she says it is a dream come true.
Speaking about the festival, she commented: “I’m so pleased to be given the opportunity to appear at the Globe Theatre.
“I have been captivated by acting since I was in primary school and am thrilled to be appearing at the Sam Wanamaker Festival.
“It feels like a dream for me to be treading in the footsteps of Shakespeare.” Acting student Lucy Menzies (22), from Auchterader
