They have been planting vegetable seeds to help them learn about eating well.

It is part of a campaign, Sow & Grow, to get children growing their own vegetables in school and nursery gardens and have a bit of fun in the process.

The campaign was set up by the Innocent drinks group and not-for-profit group Grow It Yourself which has so far reached around a quarter of UK primary schools.

Michael Kelly, founder of social enterprise GIY, said:‘It’s a fact that food growers have a better understanding of nutrition and eat more fruit and veg.

“Over the years we have repeatedly seen how even the simplest food-growing experience can make children passionate about what they eat, and help them develop a greater understanding and‘food empathy’.”

Schools taking part are encouraged to chart their progress at https://innocentsowandgrow. com/ to be in with the chance to win monthly prizes.

Football Vale of Atholl FC league match was sponsored by R W Bell Building Services last week. Vale scored 5 - 4 Moncrieff. The scorers were S McLauchlan with three, and Ben Scrimgeour and Brian Taylor with one each. The team were: D Crowe, T Young, B Taylor, A Simpson, S Henderson, G Millar, C Smillie, C Kennedy, G Robinson, B Scrimgeour, S McLauchlan; substitutes were A Berry, J Barrie, M Robertson and B Darabus. Vale started the game well and pressed the Perth team at every opportunity. B Scrimgeour scored from some good play from the Vale, but their lead didn’t last long when the Moncrieff striker let the ball fly from a distance which flew in. Vale continued to dominate which was frustrating for the Perth team. Vale were dealt a blow when G Millar had to go off, due to a recurring knee injury, which hopefully won’t be as bad as first thought. M Robertson replaced him. S McLauchlan scored two good goals and Vale had a few more chances to put the game beyond reach, but sadly couldn’t find the killer touch. Moncrieff scored near the end of the half, when a cross wasn’t cut out and was headed in with Crowe given no chance, resulting in a half-time score of 3-2. The second half hadn’t long started when Moncrieff started a move down the right with the winger hitting a shot, which Crowe seemed to have covered. But it slid from his grasp into the net to equalise. The game opened up with Moncrieff just bypassing their midfield, trying to get their pace forwards on to the ball. Vale got Robinson into the game more and used his pace up the right side of the pitch. Vale were awarded a corner. Ball came in and it was half cleared, but McLauchlan managed to get a bit of space in the box and fired it in for his third goal of the game. Vale had a few more chances, but again couldn’t find the back of the net. Moncrieff were again on the attack. They won a throw-in down by the Vales 18 yard box. Ball came in and the nippy striker attacked the goal at pace. Simpson came out to meet him, but proceeded to take him out and the referee awarded a penalty. Crowe made a great save, but the ball fell straight back to the striker who smashed it in. Vale continued to press and Robinson had an effort to come back off the bar. From a corner, there was a bit of a scramble in the box and the ball came in, with Taylor’s diving header saved by the goal keeper. J Barrie replaced a tiring Scrimgeour, who worked hard up front. With around eight minutes to go, Vale had another corner. Robinson put a great cross into the box with Taylor out jumping his marker to bullet a header into the top corner. Vale managed to hang on until the end and get the three points. It was a weird performance from the Vale, who were on top for most of the game, but seemed nervous at times. All the goals were preventable and they had plenty of chances to add more goals. Man of the match was Sean McLauchlan with three goals, which just pipped youngsters Chris Smillie and Glenn Robinson. Tomorrow Vale will entertain Kettins in another league game with a 2pm start. Pitlochry Tennis Club The club’s AGM will be held in Atholl Palace Hotel, Pitlochry on Monday, April 10, at 7.30pm.
