Hills are Alive for Perth athletes

Holly Morrogh Bernard in action Members of Perth Road Runners enjoyed the fine weather at the Birnam Hill Race A strong squad of Perth Road Runners competed in the first Hills are Alive race of the season.

Eight green vests made the trip up the A9 to Birnam for a short and steep test which meandered for over four miles.

Kevin Kelly was first Perth runner home in 37:06 followed by Kevin Rogers in 40:38, Ronnie Glen 41:22, Stewart Reid 44:03 and Dave Sinclair 47:36.

For the Fair City females, Sonjia Crow was first back for the club in a time of 44:05. Heledd Rheinallt was second female road runner in 47:11 while Ella Webley clocked 48:15.

Saturday morning had started with the weekly outing to Perth Parkrun where the spring weather brought out almost 200 runners to the North Inch.

Michael Soutar was first green vest and second overall in 18:04, with Stuart Fraser third overall in 18:35. Caroline Jones was first female home and ninth position overall in 19:41. Scott Wood and Alan Watson both gained new personal best times of 20:13 and 25:38.

Further afield, Alistair Gudgin was first across the line at Dunfermlin­e Parkrun in 17:39, while Lorraine Macpherson travelled to Telford where she was first female home in 22:01.

Caroline Hogarth and Richard Hughes completed Strathclyd­e Parkrun in 32:15 and 24:06 respective­ly.

Elsewhere, Kevin Rogers travelled back to Dunkeld to compete in his second hill race of the weekend, the Deuchary Hill Race.

This was an 11.5 mile route with an elevation of 750 metres, made even tougher by the warm, sunny conditions. Kevin finished in an impressive 1:50:18.

Tuesday club night meets at Bells Sports Centre for a 6.30pm start.

Due to the lighter nights, track will alternate with summer hills up at Deuchny Wood, meeting at Jubilee car park, again for a 6.30pm start. This begins as of Thursday, April 6.
