Superhero stroll success
A wide variety of creative costumes were on show on Saturday during an awareness event organised by Perth Autism Support (PAS).
The Superhero Stroll took place on the Fair City’s North Inch, with a good turnout of participants gathering at Bell’s Sports Centre prior to undertaking a five-kilometre walk.
Among those at the family-friendly event included local acting star Andy Gray, who is a patron of the Market Street-based good cause.
Businesses also showed their support, with staff at Perth’s Mercure Hotel among those stretching their legs and the city’s Crieff Road Tesco store providing refreshments. They also donated a garden marquee for PAS to use at future events.
The idea for the event came from PAS fundraising and events manager Ross MacGregor, who has a love for comics and all things superherorelated.
Ross thanked everyone who contributed to the success of the day, which was held at the start of World Autism Awareness Month.
A final total raised at the superhero stroll will be announced shortly.
Meanwhile, PAS has revealed it has teamed up with fashion retailer Fat Face to boost its coffers.
The shop on the Fair City’s High Street is now an official PAS charity partner.
Fat Face will raise money inside the shop, with proceeds raised donated to the only autism support group in the area.
A local Fat Face spokesperson said: “We are delighted to have Perth Autism Support as our local charity partner because they work incredibly hard to improve the lives of hundreds of families in Perth and Kinross.
“The whole team is excited to continue with our efforts and we have already raised £664.26 from in-store fundraisers and our Thanks for Giving campaign. We’ll be fundraising for Perth Autism Support as often as we can and will be helping promote autism awareness throughout April.”
PAS provides services, information and practical support to those affected by autism in Perth and Kinross.
It regularly runs support groups and activities for children to reduce social isolation and help them integrate by improving communication skills.
The charity also runs a school and family programme and supports 589 families across Perth and Kinross. Staff from Tesco’s Crieff Road store supplied refreshments and also donated a garden marquee for PAS’s future events.
