Path group leads way on upgrade

-

Pitlochry Path Group have been reflecting on a successful year as it gets ready for new ventures in 2017.

The group, a subgroup of Pitlochry in Bloom, has carried out work and upgrades across a number of green spaces in Highland Perthshire last year and received hands-on help from Pitlochry High School’s Junior Rangers throughout.

Some of the upgrades Pitlochry Path Group made last year included tidying and maintaining the paths at the Recreation Ground, Kinnaird, Edradour and the Cuilc. The group made further improvements by adding new drainage systems to the Cuilc and the Black Spout Woods, and cleaning the aluminium bridge at the Lady’s Dell.

Two of the biggest projects for the path group in the last year were upgrading the Lagreach Brae to Faskally path, and persuading SSE to create a multi-access path to run from its new visitor centre car park at Pitlochry Dam to Loch Faskally.

Pitlochry Path Group is funded through the Andie Millar Trust and the Enchanted Forest Community Trust, as well as a grant from Perth and Kinross Council’s Communities Fund which went directly towards upgrading a 300m path at Edradour.

The group is now looking towards its 2017 projects, and volunteers who want to help it maintain Pitlochry’s path network can call greenspace ranger Jeannie Grant on 01887 822435.
