Fab four in running for Heart Hero gong

- Staff Reporter

Two hard-working couples from Perthshire are in the running for a top award which recognises their efforts to help others.

Mary and Stewart Sheriffs and Nick and Catherine Procter have been nominated in the British Heart Foundation Scotland’s annual Heart Hero Awards.

Mr and Mrs Sheriffs helped Pitlochry High School become one of the first Heartstart Schools which teach emergency lifesaving techniques to youngsters.

The couple also give up their time to raise cash for the charity, encourage people to learn CPR and have developed an application to map out the locations of defibrillators in the area.

On top of that they also support children at the school who have a heart condition.

“There really is nothing these two inspiring people haven’t done to help us fight for every heartbeat,”said James Cant, director at British Heart Foundation Scotland.

“Mary and Stewart are a perfect example of the extraordinary contribution made by our supporters.”

And Nick and Catherine, from Perth, are two Heartstart trainers who go the extra mile to help people in the community. They give up their own time to run many Heartstart training courses, so that local people are trained to perform life-saving CPR, and react in an emergency situation.

“Nick and Catherine are incredibly dedicated and selfless, and work so hard to make sure we create a nation of lifesavers,” added Mr Cant.

“Without people like them, we wouldn’t be able to carry on our life-saving work.”

People are being invited to vote for the Perthshire quartet in the online poll through the BHF website, bhf.org.uk/ heartheroes.

A shortlist of nominees will be revealed on April 21 and the finals will be held on Tuesday, June 27.
