Winning artwork is a ticket to ride for kids

- Iain Howie

The art of talented youngsters at Forgandenny Primary School is to go on tour around Perthshire thanks to Stagecoach.

Youngsters entered a competition to design posters and videos for the Perth2021 culture bid competition last term, and Perth and Kinross Council received several colourful entries from the range of age groups.

Forgandenny’s effort, which used the word culture to highlight stories and events, was chosen as the winner by judges.

The winners have the chance to work with artist Dylan Gibson to create images which will then feature on buses.

Bus operator Stagecoach has agreed to display the artworks on the sides of its services in and around Perth.

The final winners in each age category were: Nursery: Inchture Primary School; P1-3: Forgandenny Primary School; P4-7: Milnathort Primary School (entry from Carrie and Brooke); Secondary: Perth High School (entry from Brooklyn Zdrzalek).

Forgandenny Primary won the overall contest for their video entry from P1-3 and their poster entry from P4-7, which featured the word ‘culture’, revealing a mini story of Perth under each letter.

The top left of the winning poster reads: “We have lots of ideas how to have a great Perth 2021. Look under each letter to discover what we would like to see happen.”

The P4-7 pupils focused their energy on festivals, proposing festivals for virtual reality, gaming, flowers, ice skating, football and a curling. The kids from Forgandenny also included some excellent sketches of medieval re-enactments and even included a sketch of a ‘dragon boat race’.

Martin Griffiths, chief executive of Stagecoach Group, said: “There was a very high standard of entries for the competition.” Some of the entries by Forgandenny pupils
