Book shop’s support is taken as read

Volunteers from Pitlochry Station Bookshop pictured with the duty crew at Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance Books flying off the shelves at a popular Pitlochry transport hub have been helping to keep Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance in the air.

Pitlochry Station Bookshop has been on board with the Sconebased charity chopper since its early days.

In that time it has contributed nearly £205,000 to charities, including £21,500 to SCAA thanks to portions of its sales being set aside.

Graham Holmes, chairman of the voluntary group that operate the thriving station bookshop, explained that SCAA was a cause which was close to everyone’s heart in Highland Perthshire and beyond.

“We see the distinctive helicopter air ambulance flying over here regularly and most people know someone who has been saved or helped by the crew,” he said.

“To see it go about its vital work is encouragement enough to know that our donations are working and being channelled to a worthy cause.”

Bookshop organisers say they plan to keep support pouring in.

They were invited to the Perth Aerodrome base to meet representatives of SCAA and their frontline service.

SCAA community fundraiser Fiona Dennis said: “Most of the books are sold for £1 so that’s a lot of books being bought up to help SCAA alone.

“We’re so grateful to the volunteers who run this amazing outlet and channel funds towards SCAA and many other charities.”
