The centre of Perth received a boost when a business affected by the closure of a well-known Fair City firm relocated to a previously vacant outlet.

Sarah Peterson initially operated her furniture upcycling business out of the iconic Watsons of Perth on the High Street.

But when Watsons’ closed its doors in December last year, Sarah had to find herself new premises to keep her business afloat.

Now her shop, Sarah’s Attic, opened on Princes Street recently.

Her partner Alfie Iannetta, who runs the business’ marketing, said: “It was a special opening for the people who have helped us on the journey for the past couple of years.

“The premises on Princes Street were empty for a while, so it made sense to move in because the rates were good, and it is next to Under The Arches, which is a similar business.

“I think now more than every it is important for independent retailers to try their best to make Perth a destination to look for something different.

“When you look back at the last few years, dozens of really quite well-known shops have folded, but now you are starting to see some businesses surviving, and we are even expanding.”

Sarah, who previously managed design at Caithness Glass, has taken her designs all over the world, including New York, London and Tokyo, and has even had orders from Perth, Australia and the Royal Family. The couple thanked all those who contributed to the success of the opening night, on March 24.
