-

TV star Nick Baker will be the special guest at Blair Atholl for the Cairngorms Nature Big Weekend, which takes place from May 13-14.

The nature presenter has been all over the planet in search of bizarre creatures, appearing on shows such as the BBC’s Springwatch Unsprung and his popular, long-running, Weird Creatures series on Channel Five.

He will be hosting a ‘minibeast safari’ at Blair Atholl Ranger Base on May 13, with guests invited to explore the Secret Creatues of the Cairngorms.

Nature’s Larder will be on hand to offer tasty samples of Scottish food either hunted or foraged and they will also be running their popular foraging walks.

There will also be a chance to enjoy a more gentle wander with the little ones while exploring the Woolly Woods, which offers a chance to try to spot local wildlife hiding in the trees.

Nick said: “I am delighted to have been invited back to the Cairngorms.

“I love being there because it is such a unique place for nature.

“I am looking forward to searching for some of the lesser-known species and spending time in the beautiful National Park, I hope you can join me.”

A spokesperson for the Cairngorms National Park said: “It will be a fantastic afternoon of family nature activities, you will learn how to track animals, discover the river’s secret wildlife and find out more about the fabulous red squirrel.”

Nick will also be on hand in Blair Atholl Hall the same evening, where he will deliver a talk about his life searching the globe for the most amazing and bizarre creature.

The park spokesperson added: “He is a highly engaging and entertaining speaker that is not to be missed. Spaces are limited at both events so early booking is recommended.”

She continued: “There are dozens of events over the weekend happening across the National Park and it promises to be a weekend of fun for all the family, most events are totally free of charge, but some require booking in advance.

“Events fill up fast so please book your place early to avoid disappointment. You can book your place, get more information and find a list of all the events happening throughout the weekend at www.cairngorms.co.uk.”
