Easter services The LECT service on Good Friday will take the form of John Stainer’s Crucifixio­n in Dunbarney Church at 6.30pm. Easter Sunday’s dawn service will be held in Tron Square, Dunning at 7am. Children’s Easter egg hunt, crafts and breakfast will take place in Dunning Church at 9.30am. The joint 11am service in Dunning Church will be conducted by the Rev James Aitchison. All are welcome.

Almondbank

St Serf’s Church The service on Sunday of last week was conducted by Interim Moderator, the Rev Dr Rob Barlow, and his sermon was based on Palm Sunday. The scripture readings were read by Dennis Scott, the organist was Irene McLean and the flowers were kindly gifted by Julie Berrie. Anyone who requires the pastoral services of a minister, should contact Mr Michael Archibald on 01738 840995. Due to the Almondbank Flood Protection Scheme access to Almondbank, residents should either travel by the A85 via Dalcrue or the A9. The Easter Sunday service will be conducted by Mr Michael Archibald, at the usual time of 10am. Everyone is very welcome.

Alyth

Alyth Church Morning worship on Sunday of last week was conducted by Rev Mike Erskine. The Easter Sunday walk up Alyth Hill will begin at 8.30am from Airlie Street Hall and return for the service in Airlie Street Hall at 11am. During term-time the Sunday school welcomes children to the front pews of the church each Sunday morning. All welcome. A crèche for those under three is available during Sunday morning services. The prayer group meets in Burnside Court lounge on Thursdays at 10.30am. Choir rehearsal is held every Friday at 6.45pm. New members welcome. Bankfoot

Bankfoot Church Tenebrae service in Luncarty Church will be held on Friday at 7pm. The early morning 8am service on Easter Sunday at Little Glenshee will be followed by breakfast, with worship in the Church Centre at the usual time of 11.15am. There will be a carpet of coins for people’s change. All welcome. The service on Sunday, April 23 will be lead by Rev. Syd Graham with the service on Sunday, April 30 led by Dr Jim Simpson. Spring fayre A huge thank you goes out to everyone who contribute­d to last week’s spring fayre either through Brig in Bloom The AGM will be held in The institute, Bridge of Earn on Tuesday at 7pm. All welcome. Bowling Club Darts and dominoes winners on the last Friday of the winter season were: darts - Charlie McLaren, Lilian Gray, booby prize Jim McKenzie; dominoes - Lilian Gray, Eddie Gray. The green opens this weekend, members should come early as there will be a civic reception held for Eddie Nicholson, Bowls Scotland president 2017, attended by the Lady Provost and guests. The Grand National sweep stake winners will receive their winnings on Saturday. The winner was Jim McKenzie (One for Arthur), Irene Bettaney (Cause of Causes), Meryl McKenzie (Saint Are) and Mary Fotheringh­am (Blaklion). The club would like to thank all those who attended the bingo teas during the winter and grateful thanks to those who provided raffle prizes and to Pat Birse and Mary Fotheringh­am, who organised and provided teas. Thanks also to all the loyal members who attended the Friday night darts and dominoes events. These get togethers keep residents in touch with what is going on in the club, while providing a very sociable night out. The hat nights will start at 6.30pm during the month of April until the nights get lighter and from May the time will be 7pm. It has been noted with deep regret the sudden death of Alec Black. Alec was a very active member of the club until ill health curtailed his participat­ion in many of

the club’s activities. He was responsibl­e for making the raised flower bed at the side of the clubhouse in time for the 150 anniversar­y celebratio­ns, where he also designed a model of the club badge. The members and committee send their sincere condolence­s to his family. Dunbarney and Forgandenn­y Church Easter services will begin with a Good Friday service in Forgandenn­y Church at 2.30pm, led by Rev Sandy Gunn. All welcome. The Earn Singers with soloists Allan Kelman (tenor) and Alistair Allan (bass) will be performing John Stainer’s “The Crucifixio­n” in Dunbarney Church tonight (Friday) at 6.30pm. It will be a very meaningful way to commence the Easter reflection­s. Please come along and support this event. There will be a daybreak service in the church gardens on Easter Sunday at 7.30am, with Rev Gillian Munro leading the worship. This will be followed by breakfast in the hall. The 9.30am service at Dunbarney church is an all-age service and will be conducted by Rev Iain Paton. The 11am service at Forgandenn­y church will also be led by Rev Paton. All welcome. Old tyme dance The next dance will be held in the Institute tonight (Friday) from 8pm to 11pm. Gavin Piper will be providing the music; tickets cost £5 (includes tea and biscuits) and are available at the door on the night. All proceeds will be donated to charity. Brickhall Community Garden Brig in Bloom’s new project to create a community garden with a heritage theme has been successful with the help of Heritage Lottery funding for the history part of the project. The first activity will be a visit to the Museum of Rural Life in East Kilbride on Thursday, April 20. Everyone is invited to come along. A coach will be leave from Dunbarney School at 9.30am and return at 3.15pm. Coach travel and entry to the museum is free. Burrelton

Burrelton Bowling Club Will open for Season 2017 on Saturday, April 15, at 2pm. Our Friday night hat nights will commence from April 21, at 6.30pm. New members will be made most welcome. Burrelton Church “Divisions, teams, hope” was the theme of morning worship in the church on Sunday of last week, led by the Rev. Stevie Thomson. Office bearers on duty were Jean MacDiarmid, Ruth McLean and Gordon Rodger. Organist was Lynne Mitchell and flowers were provided by Gladys Laing. Tea and coffee were served by Bill and Mavis Anton. Easter services will begin with a Good Friday service at Cargill/Burrelton churches. An Easter morning witness will be held on the riverbank in Cargill at 8am, followed by breakfast in the church halls, Woodside. People are encouraged to park their cars and walk along the riverbank. The Easter family service will take place at 10am.

Caputh

Caputh Church Rev Peggy Ewart Roberts conducted the Palm Sunday service in Caputh Church on Sunday morning with Ken Blackball reader and Bill and Jenny Whyte sharing organ duties. The united Good Friday service will be held tonight in the church at 7pm. Open to all. Easter Sunday service will be at 11.15am as usual. The Guild have organised a coffee morning in the church next Saturday, April 22, from 10am to 12 noon. Tony Hooton will have a plant stall. All welcome. Easter services The Maundy Thursday service was held in Collace Church, with Easter service on Sunday at 11.15am. Good Friday service will take place in Cargill Church, Burrelton on Friday at 7.30pm and Easter morning witness will be held at the Riverbank in Cargill at 8am, followed with breakfast in the church halls, Woodside. An Easter family service will be held in Collace Church on Sunday at 11.15am. Collace Guild’s annual general meeting and gift night will be held in Kinrossie Hall on Wednesday, April 19 at 7pm, where members will recollect significan­t moments of their lives. 125 club draw The winners of the 125 club draw held in Kinrossie Hall for the last three months were as follows: January 17 - 10 Sheena Thoms, Saucher, 5 V Caskie, Kinrossie; February 17 - 10 E Miller, Balbeggie, 5 J Haley, Kinrossie; March 17 - 10 J Thow, Scone, 5 J Doe, Ledgertlaw. Coupar Angus

Coupar Angus Church The service on Sunday of last week was conducted by Rev Andy Graham and the readings by Jo Chinn were Phillipian­s chapter two, verses 1-11 and John chapter 12, verses 12-19. The choir sang the introit A New Commandmen­t. As this was Palm Sunday Rev Graham spoke about Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem. Jesus was at the height of his popularity and a great crowd took palm branches to welcome him. Jesus knew that despite this welcome, he was destined to die on the Cross. He could have asked his followers for help but that was not his way. This week we look towards Easter Day and the glorious resurrecti­on. Musical offerings by Austin Wilkie were Jesu Joy of Man’s Desiring by JS Bach, Cornet Voluntary in G major by John Travers, Air in D major by Jonathon Battishill and Recessiona­l Voluntary in C major by T Pattinson. The prayer group met in the Abbey at 2pm on Wednesday and Bible study continues at 7.15pm. The Abbey Kirk Session meets on Wednesday, April 19 at 7.30pm. The retiring offering at Bendochy Church on March 26 and April 2 raised £174.50 for Christian Aid. Bendochy ladies group held a business meeting in the Coach House on Wednesday. A Good Friday service will be held in the church at 7pm, with Easter Sunday service in Bendochy church on Sunday at 10am and family Easter service in the Abbey Church at 11.15am. Everyone welcome.
