Skating derby bouts roll back into town

- Staff Reporter

High octane action returns to Perth for the first time in five years on Sunday when the Fair City Rollers battle it out.

The all-female roller derby will see the city’s ‘Fear Maidens’ take on the Helgin team from Elgin at Bells Sports Centre, with the Perth side keen to get back into action.

Team spokesperson Kirstin Guthrie, who has been part of the team for more than two years said: “After having a break from competing of almost five years, Fair City Rollers are officially back!

“Over the last few years we’ve recruited and trained a new team of players who’ve worked really hard to pass the industry standard skills and get bout-ready.

“We’re proud to be hosting the game in our home city.

“Not only will there be a whole lot of skating to watch, there will also be a few stalls and a raffle with some great prizes kindly donated by Perthshire businesses and individuals – all of which we are extremely grateful for.”

Doors open at 1pm, with the skate out at 1.30pm.

Tickets are £5 each, under 12s are free from brownpapertickets. com, through Facebook (FairCityRollers) or at the door.

Roller derby, originally an all-female sport created in the USA, is one of the fastest growing activities throughout the world and is now played by all genders.

It involves two teams skating on a circuit, with the aim of lapping each other, and using team members and skill to block their opposition.
