French connection for Perth athletes

Perth Road Runners were represente­d at the Paris Marathon.

Harriet Shaw and Steven Bonthrone travelled to the French capital for a race where 42,500 runners finished in the 23 degree heat in a huge field of 56,999 runners.

This was Harriet’s first marathon and she completed the beautiful course, which takes in famous landmarks such as Notre Dame and the Eiffel Tower, in 5:11:55, while Steven finished in an impressive 3:48:28.

Back on home soil, it was another weekend of success at Perth Parkrun with 31 road runners lining-up among over 200 runners.

And Michael Souter was first green vest across the line and third overall with a new personal best time of 17:27. Mark Dunn followed closely afterwards in 18:15.

Lorraine Macpherson was first female road runner finishing in 21:36. Jennifer Gilbert gained a new personal best time of 24:18 while Caroline Hogarth achieved the milestone of her 100th parkrun.

Elsewhere, Julie Ramsay finished Malling Parkrun in 21:16, first female across the line and Alistair Gudgin finished in fifth place at Edinburgh Parkrun in 17:13.

Gillian Douglas and Ruth Johnson travelled to Dunfermlin­e where they finished the course in 26:43 and 26:53 respective­ly.

Keeping up the marathon trend was Caroline Ness, who travelled south to complete in the Brighton Marathon.

Caroline finished the course, which meandered through the city streets finishing on the spectacula­r seafront, in 5:27:16, a great time for the extremely hot conditions.

This was a busy week for the club and three members headed for Grangemout­h for the fast and flat ‘round the houses’10K road race.

Perth club members at the Angus Ham event held in Monikie Michael McConnell finished 26th in home in 1:51:05, followed by Janette 34:33, a swift new personal best. Sonjia Clark in 2:00:26, Sara Baillie 2:00:46, Crow in 44:01 and Alan Bothwell in Kristen Allcoat 2:02:57, Stephanie Reid 55:04 completed the Perth line-up. 2:12:35 and Kirstie Main in 2:14:39.
