Kinnaird series in Fair City

-

Seven Perth Sailing Club boats splashed into the River Tay for the first race of the short Kinnaird Series.

Glorious summer sunshine and a good breeze made for ideal sailing conditions. And a clean start allowed Hunter Williamson to seize an early advantage, followed by Sandy Rodger helming John Ferguson’s Streaker and then the Solo of Andrew Porteous.

But Euan Macdonald had been working his way through the field and extended his lead in the latter stages to cross the line in first place. Porteous claimed second with Rodger in third.

The same seven boats entered for the second race of the day - and there was again a clean start. With the tide turning and the wind strength decreasing, Macdonald again showed his skill to secure top spot. He was followed closely by Jim Galloway, who took second, and third-placed Rodger.

The Kinnaird Series continued the following day and again seven boats were in action, contending with a stiff, gusting westerly breeze from a threatening sky. Jack Douglas was first over the line after three rounds of the course while Macdonald sailed home in second, ahead of John Douglas in third.

A shortened course was set for the second and final race of the series. Again Jack Douglas secured top spot after getting the better of the tough conditions, followed by John Douglas and then Galloway. Overall winner of the Kinnaird Series: Woodpecker (J Galloway) on 8 points. Runner-up: RS Aero (E Macdonald) on 11 points. 3rd: Bare Away (S Rodger) on 12 points. 4th: Helliport (B Inches) on 17 points.
