Fantastic day of family fun Organisers promise a great programme
Last year’s Bankfoot Gala Day gets underway Picture: Simon Yearsley/Bankfoot Gala Day Committee Those behind Bankfoot’s popular gala day have urged the community to get involved.
Now in its fourth year after an annual tradition from the 1960s was revived, this year’s event takes place in the village on Saturday, May 13.
Simon Yearsley, chairman of the gala committee, explained: “It’s a fantastic day of family fun and community spirit.
“We’ve focused on providing family fun and entertainment, showcasing local artisans, businesses and musical talent, and a mini-Highland Games.
“It is a great opportunity for the whole Bankfoot community to come together.”
As well as a market, the gala day will start with a street parade down Bankfoot’s Main Street at noon, complete with pipe bands, Harley Davidson motorbikes, baton twirlers, and local groups such as the cadets.
The event at Coronation Park will also include a beer tent from Bankfoot Inn, a tombola and grand prize draw, and a children’s tug o’ war competition.
It will finish with live music in the evening at the Atholl Inn.
The gala will start outside the Atholl Inn at noon before the main event starts at coronation park at 12.30pm.
Simon continued: “We are delighted to announce that, thanks to generous funding from the Highland and Strathtay Action Partnership, we now have access to around 20 robust and colourful covered market stalls.
“Lots of the stalls are already booked, but we still have a few stalls spare for local businesses.
“We’re looking for enthusiastic and local people to add another splash of colour to the day by taking up their own market stall.”
Entry is free, and anyone wishing to take up a market stall can email Kenny Stott, kendod@blueyonder. co.uk or call 07758784023.
