Classic car rally will be a real spectacle
Gleaming classic cars and modern motors will be revving their way through Blairgowrie on Sunday, April 23, in a show of support for charity.
The Blairgowrie Drive It Day is a nod to events of more than 110 years ago when several hundred cars snaked their way around the UK in a 1000-mile trip to demonstrate the reliability of cars.
But at the event later this month the drive will be less arduous, taking in 120 miles of Perthshire.
And Blairgowrie Rotarians, who have organised the car tour, will be providing a taste of the big day this Saturday and next week for fans unable to make it on the event day.
This month’s fund-raising tour is entirely for charity, all proceeds going to Cancer Research UK and CHAS. The aim is to raise more than £15,000 and any donations will be gratefully received at the pre-tour events, where a historic Jaguar XK120 will be on display and enthusiasts will be able to look under the bonnet and sit in the car.
Car fans can see classic Jaguar XK120 at a display outside Tesco in Blairgowrie on Saturday, April 15, from 10am to 4pm. It will also call at Blairgowrie High School on Friday, April 21 throughout the school day.
And the Drive It Day full programme sees cars depart at 10am from Blairgowrie Golf Club on a trip on the A93, arriving at Pitlochry’s Fonab Hotel at noon. They will be on their way again from 2pm, arriving at the Crieff Hydro Hotel at 4pm for prize giving.
