A woman was shocked when she returned to her holiday lodge in Blairgowrie - and discovered a homeless man sleeping in her bed.

Thirty-five-year-old Michael Green had also enjoyed a shower at the chalet in Rattray’s Balmoral Road , as well as helping himself to packet of cigarettes and matches.

He will now be a guest of Her Majesty’s prison in Perth’s Edinburgh Road after he was remanded in custody for reports when he appeared at Perth Sheriff Court.

Described as of no fixed abode, he told Sheriff John Rafferty he had “nowhere to go.”

Green admitted entering the premises uninvited on March 25 whilst the occupant wasn’t there - and then making use of the facilities.

He also pled guilty to stealing the cigarettes and matches - and being in possession of a knife.

A not guilty plea was accepted to a fourth charge of stealing two axes and a quantity of vegetables from Ardgreian, Balmoral Road, Rattray, the same day.

Depute fiscal Robbie Brown said the accused had been homeless for a couple of weeks before committing the offences.

The complainer had left the holiday lodge during the afternoon and when she got back around 8pm discovered the accused asleep in her bed.

The cigarettes and matches, worth £2.50, were recovered.

Police were alerted and the accused was traced nearby.

When asked about the knife, Green told officers:“You never know when you will need a knife to cut something, I suppose.”

The accused, who had been drinking, will be sentenced on May 3.
