Fury over Glenfarg ‘eyesore’

The Glenfarg Community Company have voiced their anger over the‘eyesore’of Glenfarg Hotel.

No work has begun to turn the derelict Glenfarg Hotel into 12 flats, a plan which was approved by Perth and Kinross Council’s loval review body a year ago by two votes to one.

Annoyed Glenfarg residents were angered by this decision, because a previous plan submitted to the council by Arngask Hotels Ltd was rejected because it was contrary to the council’s local developmen­t plan and the Scottish Government’s planning policy.

Arngask Hotels appealed the decision resulting in the council’s local review body overturnin­g the planning officers recommenda­tion to refuse planning permission.

Since the decision, the hotel has fallen into disrepair and the community group have considered legal action against the local review body.

A member of the Glenfarg Community Company and former owner of the Glenfarg Hotel Steve Whiting said:“There remains an overall feeling of acute injustice within the village as to just how such a chain of events has been allowed to befall Glenfarg.

“Particular­ly galling for villagers is the key argument put forward at the time by the owner and councillor Joe Giacopazzi, who sat on the locla review body, that the decision was made to ensure the hotel didn’t lie empty and fall into disrepair, thus becoming an eyesore to the village.

Cllr Giacopazzi said:“One thing you can’t do is to guarantee what will be subsequent­ly be built after the decision.

“The decision gave a second option and if the Glenfarg Community Company wants to buy the building they will need to take that up with the owner.”
