Womantriedto smuggle drugs

-

A woman tried to smuggle cannabis and heroin into Perth Prison.

And when she was confronted by police, she swallowed a package believed to contain illicit substances.

Thirty-five-year-old Kimberley Fraser had her sentence deferred for background reports when she appeared at Perth Sheriff Court.

Sheriff John Rafferty said he was prepared to call for reports because it had been several years since she had last served a jail sentence.

But he warned her:“These are serious matters and all options are available to the court when you return for sentence.”

She admitted having the Class B drug cannabis and heroin, a Class A substance, in her possession at the Edinburgh Road jail on October 19 last year.

She had originally been charged with being in possession of the drugs with intent to supply to others and was to have faced trial yesterday.

But guilty pleas were accepted to an amended charge of having the items in her possession.

Fraser also pled guilty to obstructing two police officers by swallowing a package containing substances controlled under the Misuse of Drugs Act.

She will discover her fate on May 10 after a Community Justice Social Work report and a Restriction of Liberty Order assessment have been prepared.

The accused, of Alison Street, Kirkcaldy, had her bail continued meantime.

The background to the charges will be given next month.
