Pupils win an aquarium
Ruthvenfield Primary School pupils won the competition Pic by Phil Wilkinson Ruthvenfield Primary School won an aquarium for their classroom when pupils joined more than 1,000 visitors at the launch of the new aquatic store, Fishkeeper Scotland, at Dobbies Garden Centre in Perth.
Seven pupils, their families and head teacher, Andrew Clark, attended the special launch celebrations, picking up their prize of an aquarium for their classroom, after entering a competition on how to be a responsible fishkeeper.
Mr Clark said: “We are absolutely delighted to win Fishkeeper Scotland’s school competition and for being invited to join in the launch celebrations at the Perth store.”
He added: “Our pupils have been asking for a pet for the last two years and when this opportunity came up, I jumped at the chance of winning it for them.
“We are planning to kickstart the programme after the holidays and combine it with learning about climate change and a few other topics, which is going to be a great experience for them.”
Pupils will learn everything about setting up an aquarium, including choosing the right location and equipment, having plants in an aquarium and how to feed the fish.
Colin Christian, Fishkeeper Scotland regional director, said: “The launch of our new store in Perth was a chance to officially open our doors to a great new fishkeeping experience for hobbyist and families in the area .
“I am delighted Ruthvenfield pupils won the competition and look forward to working with them during the next term on this great fishkeeping initiative.”
